((( EDITOR’S PICK )))
Wow, I haven’t heard from this band since their 1999 album “Straight Up”. My comments then still stand today: this is one tight, competent swing band that hits all the marks. With a surprising number of originals, Ron Sunshine and his talented band put together a girl-swirlin’, martini-stirrin’, cigar-smokin’ good time with minimal clich and sleaze and maximal rhythm and blues. Check out the funny (and true) “Coffee and Reefer”, the soul-injected “Little Bit Shy”, the shuffling “Human Blues”, and all the other jazz and groove-ridden tracks. No one’s happier than me that the annoying swing revival from a few years ago winked out like a candle in a hurricane, but I’m glad these guys are still around.
