The Rotted are a death metal band from jolly ole England. They don’t seem so jolly to me though. They originally were called Gorerotted but changed it so they wouldn’t get pigeon-holed playing gore-themed death metal. Instead of just hissing & screaming about horror movies; the band has just stuck to screaming in general. Way to open things up guys!
From not knowing a thing about Gorerotted, The Rotted sound pretty cool despite giving me a raging headache. At some point, I can actually hear what they were saying! The drumming on this album is insane, the guitar playing sounds like they are on all speed, and the vocals add the toughness to the music. My favorite tracks that stood out for me were Kissing You With My first and Angel of Meth. Not sure why they stood out for me, but they did for some reason. From not being a fan of death metal, I dug these guys a lot. I’m a fan of hardcore and some earlier metal, but not necessarily death metal. Death metal can be a little too much for me but I think these guys are tolerable. I think the change from Gorerotted to The Rotted was a change for the better!
Bottom Line: The Rotted’s debut album on Metal Blade was an impressive one!
Notable Tracks: The Howling, Kissing You with my Fist, Angel of Meth, Get Dead or Die Trying
