Sharks and Sailors play very 1990s sounding indie alterna-rock that would fit perfectly at Lollapalooza circa 1995. Unfortunately for the band, it has been a while since music like that was popular, and when you’re attempting a style that blends jangly guitars, mid-tempo beats, and at times flat vocal delivery by both male and female singers, there really just isn’t an audience for it. None of the songs really stand out, but I have to say that some of them do have some interesting parts, and I do see potential for growth. The drumming in particular is impressive and probably the most interesting part of the band’s sound. I just feel like there’s something missing that makes it so that I can’t get engaged or really feel the flow of the album. Not an entire mis-step as a whole, but I think I just want it to be better.
Bottom Line: 90s indie rock that doesn’t stand out despite two different vocalists.
