“Send me an angel! Right now!” The 80’s music trend continues with a band called Shiny Toy Guns. The band is technology-driven; meaning the music has a lot of samples, keyboards and other bleeps and boop beats in the music. The sound has a mixture of everything, like pop, rock, dance, new wave and other stuff. I thought this album would be some whiny emo band but this actually pretty catchy shit! This is definitely guilty pleasure type music, well for me anyway. I don’t think I’d go to their concert or blare their music in the car, but it’s not bad to listen to in your own home.
The album starts off with their first single “You Are The One.” No it’s not about Neo…I actually heard of the song “Le Disko,” sung mostly by Carla Faye. I know I heard it somewhere, in a movie or tv show before, but just don’t know where exactly. This band reminds me of Elkland a little bit, but they seem a little bit more maturer or not as one-dimensional in their sound. I actually prefer the female singer to the guy singer. But he’s not that bad, it just the female singer fits the music better. Any fan of synth-pop, 80’s music will love this group, check me out!
Bottom Line: Impressive debut album from this eclectic synth-pop rock band.
Notable Tracks: You are The One, Le Disko, Don’t Cry Out, Rainy Monday
