This is a fantastic album. Slumber Party is an all-girl band whose style is neo-60s psych-pop vocals over clever minimalist electronica and fuzzy guitars. Even with all the casio punk out there, this is something different. It’s like the jangly neo-60s psychpop of Chicklet time-warped to a hazy, digital future.

Aesthetically, it’s a wonderful listen. There’s an addicting sing-song quality to the vocals, and an electrical current of great sounds, rhythms, and structure that keep songs shuffling in an upbeat, pleasing way, even if they seem drab on the surface. It’s like they’ve tapped into that quality that allowed the Velvet Underground to rise above droning art rock and produce a twisted, yet simple, pop brilliance. Not only do Slumber Party avoid the abrasiveness of the Kill Rock Star sound (particularly among other casio bands), they’ve created a nearly flawless pop album, psych-drones and all.

Bottom Line: Like a 60s girl group that time traveled to 2112 with Galaxie 500.
Notable Tracks: So Sick, Boys/Girls, Destruction/Construction, Electric Ocean
