Many promos I get are, to quote MacBeth, “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” It’s a surprise, therefore, that Sound And Fury not only don’t suck, but they signify ROCKITUDE.
Expecting a metalcore band, I was immediately blown away by full-throttle 70s-style arena rock. This Toronto band is clearly influenced by (if not actively emulating) AC/DC, early KISS, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Motorhead, and Joan Jett. They add some punk and glam flourishes, but don’t stray far from the bands that first made me love music.
The album consistently channels that teen-in-the-70s giddy party rock vibe. You can tell just from the titles: “School’s Out,” “Teenage Rampage,” “18,” “High School Hotbox”… This is goofy arena rock fun, yet miraculously Sound and Fury avoids the oversexed sleaze and cheesiness of similarly raucous LA-style bands.
With power riffs, solos, and simple chantalong choruses, this is a band for today’s Guitar Hero/Rock Band generation. Is it unoriginal, contrived, retro? Who cares? STAR POWER!
Bottom Line:
Notable Tracks: Supercharged, Teenage Rampage, 18, the Runaways-inspired Runaway Love
