Soundtrack and Score to the Clint Eastwood Directed World War II Biopic. The movie stars Ryan Phillipe, Jesse Bradford, and Adam Beach and is about the men who helped raise the flag at Iwo Jima in Japan. If there wasn’t enough to directing a film, but Clint Eastwood also helps to compose and orchestrate most of his films. With “Flags” he helps intergrate a good portion of score music for the film as well as some of the music you could have heard during that time period like Dinah Shore’s “I’ll Walk Alone,” and “Summit Ridge Drive” by Artie Shaw. Not to mention a nice selection of classical pieces from Haydn, Mozart, and John Philip Sousa.
Clint’s Son lends a hand with track 3 “Knock Knock” which really resembles some of the music from that time period as well as something you would have heard in previous films. Not bad either. I haven’t seen the film yet, but the music was nice to listen to. I would have liked to had more score music but I guess it was important to include works from that time.
Bottom Line: Good score from Clint and co. and a nice balance of score and source music.
Notable Tracks: The Photograph, Armada Arrives, Knock Knock, The Medals, End Titles
