Ooof. Shit hasn’t been this corny since the time I got food poisoning from a Mexican restaurant. Speed of Life play college radio rock that was popular in 1995. Only ballady. And not very good.
I’ve already mentioned that their sound is dated. Well, it would’ve sucked back then too. Their lyrics make Dave Matthews seem like Cannibal Corpse. From “Children”: Children, you need to see the world / You need to feel the world / Taste the world / Know it, understand.” Rush’s Dreamline, this is not.
Many other songs are about following your heart and reaching your goals and sucking my dick. It’s heartfelt and beautiful.
So not only is this shit cheesier than the time I got food poisoning from umm… a fondue place, the vocals are just awful. Ballady with a grunge tinge, but the main problem is that the lyrics are drawn out in a very slow delivery – sometimes even slower than the music. Not only does it sound terrible, but it makes me clearly hear the lyrics. And if I wanted to hear something inspirational and uplifting, I’d get food poisoning at umm.. an Indian restaurant! (Yeah, that isn’t making much sense anymore…)
The one good thing about Speed of Life is that they’re completely harmless and unaffecting. You see, my cat normally runs and hides whenever I review CDs, but when I put on Speed of Life, he actually came over and fell asleep on the speaker. And that was cute. So thank you, Speed of Life. Thank you for moving at the speed of silence.
