Strung Out are back with a brand new studio album on Fat Wreck Chords. Believe it or not, I never heard any of their studio albums until now. I saw them play at the Warped Tour in 2005 and liked what I heard. Not sure why I never listened to Strung Out until now. It might just have been the simple fact that someone else reviewed their CDs. Strung Out’s sound is interesting because they combine a lot of newer and older elements together. You got that fast punk sound from California, but at the same time you got the newer melodic hardcore/rock sound as well. Since I never really listened to their older stuff, I can’t really compare this album to their previous albums.

As far as ‘Blackhawks Over LA’ is concerned, I liked a lot of the songs and didn’t really get sick of the music. I thought the guitar playing on this CD was awesome and the vocals by Jason were top notch as well. If you enjoy Strung Out’s albums, you’ll more than likely like this album as well. Well I liked it at least.

Bottom Line: A solid punk rock album
Notable Tracks: Party in the Hills, All the Nations, The King Has Left The Building, Mission Statement
