Stylex is another 80s-style casiopunk band, a trend I actually don’t mind so much on account of my own dorky obsession of the 80s and unconditional love for Devo.

Stylex, though, aren’t exactly the cream of the crop. The music is inconsistent, if not downright dull – the bleeps and bloops are cute n’ all, but there’s a lot of lost potential here in terms of execution. The vocals are exasperatingly herky-jerky, if befitting of the music. But it’s hard to listen to songs like “The Business” without wanting to hit the singer with a bat. The only truly good song is “Hide and Sneak” – bouncy and catchy with moderated vocals.

Although I have much patience for casiopunk, I couldn’t wait for this CD to be over. It’s not noisy, but between the uninteresting casio melodies and irritating vocals, it’s a huge chore to sit through. You’ll have more fun rocking out to an old Gameboy game.

Bottom Line: I don’t normally find casio punk to be dull and flat, but Stylex find a way.
Notable Tracks: Celebrater is pretty good, and Hide and Sneak is what all their songs should sound like.
