((( COOZER’S PICK )))
Formerly known as the Riot Squad, these Belgium punkers changed it to Sweet Poison, an amalgam of my two favorite bands (Sweet and Poison), though ironically, the name Sweet Poison doesn’t sound as cool. But this band does!
They play a European (read: cute) style of street punk with lots of “whoa-oh ohs,” interspersing male/female vocals, and occasional piano. Really good stuff. Not as essential as other Coozers Picks, but they get it by virtue of being one of the few catchy, fun bands of all the hundreds of releases I got this month.
Some songs are fantastic though – check out “Little Suzy,” “Wasted at 22,”and “Goodbye My Love.” But their cover of the Misfits’ “Where Eagles Dare” couldve been better, and that’s a hard song to screw up.
