You’ve all seen the trailers of Wall-E, the lonely robot with the funny name & sounds. Wall-E is the latest Pixar movie that will most likely be a hit and it’s pretty much a robot love story. I’m not sure kids will like that but I’m sure others won’t mind it. Thomas Newman was tapped to do the score and the last time he did a Pixar movie, he composed Finding Nemo. I really liked that score but didn’t like the movie that much. I’m hoping I’ll like Wall-E, it certainly looks entertaining and funny.
The soundtrack starts off with a Michael Crawford song “Put On Your Sunday Clothes.” I’m assuming that’s in the movie? The problem with some of Thomas Newman scores is the tracks are way too short, and most go under 2 minutes. There’s only a few that go pass 2 minutes. I wish Newman would combine the songs together and make them longer. But other than that, this is a good score. I think “Define Dancing” is a classic Thomas Newman song that’s beautiful and I can’t wait to hear that in the movie. Just from hearing it I could tell you he did that song. Not too many composers have that signature sound. There’s 38 tracks in total, with many of them really short. I think the score started off on the quiet side but it gets better as the album progresses. I’m sure I’ll like the score even more once I see the movie too!
Bottom Line: If you love Thomas Newman scores, than you’ll really like this one as well!
Notable Tracks: Wall-E, First Date, Typing Bot, Define Dancing
