Avail’s frontman, Tim Barry has been on and off the road since last year. 2 Avail tours in the USA and then some solo shows over in Europe. In the midst of all that, he recorded 10 acoustic songs that he wrote and performed on the indie label, Suburban Home Records. I’m not really that big of a fan of Avail’s music, but honestly, I haven’t really listened to them a whole lot. While this type of album seems like the new thing do among punk bands and musicians, Tim Barry takes a stab at it as well. I’m just not sure I like this all that much.
I think the music of Tim Barry is too Americana, or Country for my liking. While sometimes I think punk singers are better off singing folk or non-punk music, I think Barry sounds best screaming in Avail. Maybe I need to watch a bunch of Smokey and the Bandit movies before listening to this CD? I don’t mind folk, and alternative country; I just don’t think I like Barry’s style or voice for it. I don’t know, maybe you’ll like this but I didn’t.
Bottom Line: Go back to singing with Avail
