Kingston, PA’s Title Fight have caught the eyes (or ears I suppose) of Side One Dummy for their gritty, moody emo/punk. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t see what the label sees in Title Fight.

It’s cool that local PA bands are getting recognized for their music like the Menzingers, but I’m just not a fan of the Title Fight. As soon as the first track “Coxton Yard” came on, I kind of groaned to myself. “Ugh, this doesn’t sound good to me.” There are so many unsigned bands out there and not sure why Side One Dummy would sign these guys instead? Their sound is whiny, but in a loud, obnoxious way.

I’m not trying to kick sand in the band’s face with this review, I just think Side One Dummy could do better. I tried to listen to the whole album, but only made it into a few songs. The songs are too moody, loud, and honestly…very emo/post-punk. Hot Water Music (don’t like them) comes to mind, but even worse than that. The Title Fight will probably be liked by many, but I won’t be among them.

Bottom Line: Not a good album
