The amount of great songs the Toasters have written is astounding, and possibly unmatched by any other ska band since Madness. This best-of does its best to pack as many of their best songs onto one disc as they can.
Of course, there are glaring omissions (only two songs each from New York Fever and Dub 56??), and later versions are chosen over their originals (which should be a crime), but there are no misses – all of these songs are Toaster classics.
Even though the tracklist bounces around their chronology, everything flows without a glitch, evincing not only the Toasters’ consistent greatness, but the consistency of their sound itself. While fans can make their own mixes suitable to their tastes, this disc succeeds as an introduction to one of the greatest ska bands of any wave.
