The promo CD wasn’t reading, but I was curious enough about the name checks in the press kit (Simple Minds, New Order) to check out a few songs online. From what I heard, the comparisons are partly apt and overly generous.
Too Late for Roses (terrible name, but then again, so is “Echo & the Bunnymen”) plays 90s alternative with a little 80s New Romantic. There is a touch of Simple Minds in there (the vocals, usually), but the biggest influences are Muse and its 90s ilk.
Much of what I heard (about half of the album) was decent but not particularly strong, with the exception of the groove-laden and slightly angular “1985.” The other songs, though, remind me unpleasantly of 1995.
