I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if it weren’t for T. Duggins’ vocals; the Tossers would be a great band. Annoying vocals aside, The Tossers’ latest effort is called “Agony” and it’s on Victory Records again. While I thought their other albums had some great songs on them, the rest of the stuff is really forgettable. I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between what song is what if I mixed them up. That’s not the say that the band has improved their sound over the years, they have. But I’m just saying their songs just sound the same too me and I forget about they are after I’m done listening to the album.

With “Agony,” the band sounds awesome on the faster tracks. When it comes to the slower songs, I feel like skipping to the next track in two seconds. I think it’s mainly due to T. Duggin’s voice & style. His vocals are meant to be sung in fast Celtic punk songs, but it sounds just awful when he sings slow. A good example of how the Tossers should play their music and not deviate from is “Siobhan” and “Pub and Culture.” I know I keep bringing up his vocals but if that voice irritates me to the extent of me wanting to turn the CD off, then I have to keep mentioning it. I could be overly-critical right now but I’m sure i’m not alone on this. The rest of the band seem to have come really into their own, and have matured their sound a lot. I think this album is better than their last album; even though I keep busting on Duggins, I think he sounds the best he has out of all the albums so far. Maybe I’ll just avoid the slow songs from the Tossers and enjoy the rest. I think if I saw the band live, I might appreciate their music better. But maybe not, who knows. If you like the Tossers, you’ll most likely enjoy this album.

Bottom Line: Probably their best effort to date, I just can’t stand T. Duggins’ voice (if you haven’t noticed).
