Treaty of Paris is not an original name. Let’s get that out of the way, they could have come up with a MUCH better treaty to be named after. What about Versailles? Doesn’t that sound prettier?

In terms of originality, Sweet Dreams, Sucker, is not bursting with it, but from time to time, there are some great bits that I actually didn’t expect. I enjoyed listening to this album, and at times it reminded me of an emo version of Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. But then there are the ballads…and then I get confused.

Anyway, Treaty of Paris has a lot to learn in terms of lyrics, but they sure know how to make good hooks. I easily had a song or two stuck in my head after listening to it once through. The album is well put together, as each song comes one after another in a constant stream that for once makes sense in an album of this kind. Kudos to the band for making a coherent style throughout.

As for whether you’ll hear Treaty of Paris on the radio? They need all the musicians they’ve cloned to be off the airwaves first, but don’t be surprised to see it on some TV show like The OC or something. Oh wait, wasn’t that cancelled? Ok, Lost then.

Bottom Line: Treaty of Paris needs a name change, but their first LP is worth a listen…and apparently is actually on Chicago radio!
