This is Ugly Stick’s first album in 15 years. Apparently, they were an original cowpunk band from back in the day.
Heartland punk with a little twang has never really been my thing, but these guys do it somewhat well, although they’re not good enough to convert me. While I’m impressed they were able to scrape the rust off their figurative GTO-on-blocks punk, honestly, I could take or leave this album. There are a couple of standouts, and it’s cool to hear true, twangy cowpunk from the Oxycontin country, but most of it feels as disposable as the couch on your porch.
Not great.
