Pure bubblegum, the Unlovables rock out boppy, fun pop-punk the way it’s meant to be – with lots of whoa-oh’s. That’s no surprise since they’re a Whoa Oh Records band, and the label demands only the best whoa-ohs from their artists.

Now I view this band with rose-colored glasses because there are so few young punk bands these days that remember how to have fun. In an ideal world where every band sounds like either the Queers or Rush, the Unlovables might actually be more unloved. Honestly, although all the songs are upbeat, few really stand out (see Notable Tracks). Also, Hallie Bullit’s voice is shaky and leans flat. The Unlovables actually remind me of the Eyeliners, except that the Unlovables’ vocals are better, but their songs aren’t as catchy or memorable.

Still, it’s overall a good listen. I’m holding onto it and will likely appreciate it more after additional spins.

Bottom Line: Upbeat pop punk for the broken hearted.
Notable Tracks: Samantha, Everything’s Overrated, Have You Ever?, Sweet Sweet Boy
