It’s funny how one element in a band’s mix can really destroy your perception of them. In Until June’s case, it’s the ultra-crappy lyrics. Seriously, these lyrics make Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie’s songwriting seem as genuine as Gwar’s. And that’s a shame too, because this album isn’t half bad.

Nothing brilliant, but some fantastic production, solid musicianship and a generally likeable sound akin to Keane, early U2, Death Cab, Snow Patrol, and every band that has ever been played on the O.C. Mind you, that’s exactly where you’d probably find these guys. Their inoffensive sound is not quite powerful enough to get them radio play, but they might earn a decent cult following of 14-year-olds. I could see this on Ipod Nanos everywhere.

Now I don’t know too much about the band, but I know that this is a pre-release and that this is coming out next spring. Initially I’d be happy to recommend them, but I wouldn’t want anyone to be subjected to their vomit-inducing lyrics. Sample lyrics:

Raindrops falling on the rooftops / got me feeling lonely’

I know that it feels like summer / but it’s fall I have’ (what a pun)

oh when you were young / did you ever love someone / so much you couldn’t bare the thought of losing them’

I want to buy up the cosmos / and name every star after you’

Yeah. I know.

Bottom Line: Good sound, good production, but seriously, the worst lyrics EVER.
Notable Tracks: I didn’t get song names, but 1, 3, and 8 were catchy. And 10 was an album-ending power ballad.
