Based on song plays, Vaeda was listed as the #1 band on MySpace back in September/October of 2005. Well, lah-dee-dah, they must be good! They sure are! If you happen to be a fan of rock in the vein of Creed, Live and Nickelback. I, however, am not.
I literally cringed when I listened to this three-piece out of the NYC. To their credit, Vaeda plays their music with a tangible passion and professionalism that is to be admired but they fall short…way short in delivering anything noteworthy. Vaeda is a post-grunge band that have all the toys, technically speaking but their timing is off by about a decade.
Vocalist Ian Cole has an impressive range and is supported by two other talented musicians. But they lack the imagination to deliver anything but rehashed subpar music that reeks of whammy bars and falsetto fromage. When it’s all said and done, Vaeda leaves a bitter taste in your mouth and is downright annoying. I really didn’t like this album at all.
I think part of the problem lies in the talents of these individuals. The arrangements and melodies of their songs are too grand and too much to comprehend. The old adage too much is not enough’ rings true with this release. There is potential here to be sure. If they could focus on dummying things down they might find their niche on rock radio. But as it stands right now, Vaeda is far too ambitious.
Bottom Line: If you’re on this site because you love punk music, you’ll hate this band
Notable Tracks: uhmmm, errr, I’m at a loss here..sorry.
