I think the Californian sun has fried their brains. Probably in response to criticism that their last couple of albums were too catchy (what’s wrong with that?), the Vandals have roared back with a sludgy, unpleasant sound that’s too fast and hard to suit their sense of humor and brand of pop punk.

There are a couple of decent songs, like the amusing “Christian or Canadian” and the grows-on-you cover of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” but this is mostly disappointingly bland stuff.

Bottom Line: On the bad side of uneven.
