Butter is an ensemble comedy that stars Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry, Alicia Silverstone (she’s back?) and Hugh Jackman. It looks funny based on the clips I’ve seen but that can be deceiving.

The soundtrack features music from Fitz and the Tantrums, Imani Coppola featuring Time Myers, Jonsi and Raphael Saadiq. I love Fitz and the Tantrums and they are featured right in the beginning with “Picking Up the Pieces” and “Winds of Change.” Just a great, uplifting way to start a soundtrack. Imani Coppola has a song with Tim Myers called “Celebrate.” That song is blah but I like Tim Myers’ music so it’s somewhat tolerable. Jonsi of Sigur Ros song feels weird but likable but that’s how I feel about Sigur Ros’ music. No idea what they are saying but it sounds nice.

Orlean’s “Still The One” is a highlight for me because it’s just a fun song and stands out from the more recent songs. Other tracks I enjoyed were “Dancing in the Moodlight” by King Harvest and “Keep Marchin'” by Raphael Saadiq. I never heard of Raphael Saadig’s solo music (besideswha he did in Tony! Toni! Toné!) and he plays old school soul/R&B. That’s why I like soundtracks like this. They are fun to listen to and it makes me discover new music! I mean, I used to listen to Tony! Toni! Toné! when I was younger so I’ll just check out his solo soul stuff.

This is a great soundtrack and based on the music, Butter seems like it will be a decent comedy.

Bottom Line: A fun soundtrack!
Notable Bands: Fitz and the Tantrums, Orleans, Imani Coppola featuring Time Myers, Jonsi, Raphael Saadiq
