There’s a special place in my heart for Edmonton, as 43% of the ReadJunk forum hails from there. And where there are good ReadJunkies, you will find good music.
WNH succeed in making punkcore upbeat and fun. Their two-minute, hard-edged songs pack a lot of action and feeling, managing to sound both rough and positively vibed. They’ve got one foot solidly in street punk, one in punkcore, and the mix is great.
They’re mindful of melody and have great guitar lines, so you never feel like you’re listening to the same song twice. But they don’t deviate so far from punkcore that they’re poppy street punk – even with all their whoa-ohs. I guess if you’re cynical, you can argue that they’re not-as-catchy street punk, but I consider them catchier-than-usual punkcore. I guess it’s a glass half full kind of thing.
Bottom Line: Rough & tumble punkcore with street punky upbeat and whoa ohs.
Notable Tracks: Dead End Street, Uncivilized Bastard, Action
