Wrecking Crew were okay. If you like Boston-style hardcore like Slapshot, or if you have an interest in the second wave of hardcore, this might interest you. But Wrecking Crew simply didn’t age well. They didn’t have the energy or anger of Cro-Mags or Agnostic Front, and the vocals are shaky at best. Wrecking Crew were influencial for their time, but they would’ve seemed amateurish, sloppy, and dull by today’s standards.

But that’s all besides the point. I would give this CD 3 stars solely on the basis of its influence and legacy… except for the fact that Bridge Nine put out a Wrecking Crew retrospective a couple of years ago, rendering this reissue largely unnecessary.

And it seems like this is a major problem in the hardcore scene. It feels like both bands and labels are cashing in, with multiple labels getting the same rights to the same bands. It’s creating a flood of too many redundant reissues. You could argue that reissues increase availability for fans and collectors, but in this age of MP3s, amazon and ebay, all this stuff is already very easily accessible. I mean, I could get the original LP from ’89 within 5 seconds.

Bottom Line: Yet another hardcore reissue.
