At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked ATHF but after watching more episodes I grew to appreciate the pure insanity of this show. What’s not to love about a bunch of food items living in the craphole known as NJ?

I haven’t seen any of the first season but I don’t think it really matters to be honest. The show is about human sized food products living in a rental house in New Jersey. There’s FryLock (Carey Means) who’s the sensible one of the group. There’s Master Shake (Dana Snyder), a wacky NJ/Gilbert Gottfried speaking Shake, and then there’s a ball of meat, Meatwad (Dave Willis). The 3 usually spend some time hanging out in Carl’s pool, who’s their fat next door neighbor. They also think they are superheros, but I don’t really seem them doing any of that except hanging out in their apartment all day. Maybe you see that in the first season, I don’t know?

Even though I haven’t seen any of the first season, the episodes aren’t exactly a continuous storyline. At first, I said to myself, what’s so special about this show but then I kept watching the episodes on this Volume 2 set, and I was finding myself laughing more. I think my favorite character on the show is Master Shake. The reason why I like him so much is his voice. It just sounds.. funny. Meatwad has a funny, distorted voice, but it’s hard to make out what he’s saying sometimes. But then again, he’s just a bunch of meat. I think Carl is hilarious and I think Frylock is boring; probably because he’s not really out there like the other characters. There’s always one straight laced character per tv series/ cartoon it seems to balance out the craziness. There’s a few quest appearances on this season but the one that stands out the most is Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy playing Dave the Brain or whoever that alien was with the giant brain in the Super Trivia episode. I was cracking up at the episode when Meatwad thinks he’s psychic and predicts oil on Carl’s property and they end up drilling into his septic tank and carl’s “breakfast” is all over the place.

The extras on here were kind of… weird. There’s some easter eggs of puppets doing stuff like bowling. Puppets freak me out. There’s some footage of the Space Ghost show with the ATHF on it, I think. Not too sure what that was haha. The deleted scenes weren’t anything special. They were too short. Not too sure what Future Wolf II was. Sort of like a mockumentary on the making of the show. You saw some clips of the voice over actors doing their thing and singing the theme song. That feature was okay. I was generally disappointed in the extras.

The episodes for ATHF are just so stupid and funny at the same time it’s hard not to laugh. I can definitely see why this is such a hit (probably mostly with stoners). Though i’m not a stoner and found the show extremely funny. After seeing this DVD, I definitely want to go out and buy the first season and try to stay up late and watch the show on Adult Swim.
