Uprising was the last official Bob Marley and the Wailers studio album and sadly, his last tour as well. The tour ran from May to July in Europe and a few US dates in September. Bob tragically passed away at the age of 36 on May 11th 1981.

Several months earlier, he filmed his live show from Dortmund, Germany at Westfalenhalle. The filming was for the famous German music TV series Rockpalast. The footage has been restored (Ziggy and Cedella supervised the restoration) the best it could and the result is this DVD.

The concert starts with the I-Threes (Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt) singing a few songs including “Steppin Out Of Babylon.” Bob came out and played songs like “Natural Mystic,” “I Shot The Sheriff,” “War,” “Jamming,” “Redemption Song,” and plenty more! The concert footage is almost 2 hours so it definitely feels like you’re there in a way….in a hazy, blurry pixelated sort of way. I didn’t really notice anything out of the ordinary with Bob, considering he had cancer in his body at this point. He seemed to be moving around a bit but maybe he wasn’t at his peak. Still sounded amazing to me and it still bums me out I never got a chance to see him perform live. That’s why it’s important they keep releasing Bob Marley concerts, because not all of us got to see him perform.

Quality wise, this is okay. It’s nothing that special and the quality is to be expected. The footage is dated, sometimes feels like it was clarified and contrast to hell in photoshop. But whatever, I’ll take whatever Bob Marley concerts I can get. I still like “Live!” the most as far as live concerts or albums go but this is still an important concert for Bob Marley fans to watch & own.
