The Dead Kennedys are my favorite punk band. Well the old band, not the hacked version that is touring around these days. This DVD features very rare footage of the recording process of “”

This is the lost footage of the Dead Kennedys recording ” In God We Trust, Inc.” at Subterranean Studios. This footage was lost because when they brought the tape to mix at Mobius Music, the tape started to melt and deteriorate. So they had to re-record everything, which is what you can hear now on the E. P. So this footage is the original versions to such classics like Moral Majority, Nazi Punks Fuck Off, and Religious Vomit. The studio video is just the band going through each song, screwing up here and there, drinking beer and joking around. It’s kind of cool to see the band getting along together, joking around and just jamming out their songs. It sucks that the band is on such shitty terms now, with all the lawsuits. You can’t really tell which side is right or wrong, or who to believe. I tend to lean towards Jello’s side though because he was what made the Dead Kennedys and he usually knew what was best for the band. It just sucks that the lawsuits and disputes are/were going on because it doesn’t make it fun to listen to their old CDs anymore. This DVD made me get out their Cds and listen to though.

Other stuff included on this DVD is live performances from various places, of the Dead Kennedys performing the songs from “In God We Trust, Inc.” I love watching the old punk videos because the scene was soooo different back then. Not sure for the better though. The kids just went fucking crazy back then, running all over the stage and every 2 seconds was a stage diver. Now every club has 10 bouncers, or a steel gate so you can’t get up on stage because every club is scared of a lawsuit. It’s also fun to watch old Dead Kennedys videos because of Jello Biafra. He acts out the songs (though not really so much on this DVD). Also, if a kid gets in his way or takes the mic, Jello punches and kicks the crap out of that person. That’s punk! If you did that today, you’d get a lawsuit the next day. Some of the video is decent quality, and some of it’s just old. But what do you expect from videos from the 80’s. I kind of wished there was more on this DVD, but DK fans should check this out if you want to see some rare stuff from one of the greatest punk bands ever!
