Japanese horror is definitely the best there is. I find myself enjoying these movies a lot more then their American remakes, simply because the Japanese surely know how to scare people. And yes they ARE remaking this one, along with numerous others (such as THE EYE, another excellent flick).
There are quit a few twists in this movie, which is one of the reasons I enjoyed it. Sure, you might be able to guess them less than halfway through, but still, when they happen… they shock you. Basically, to sum up the movie, a young girl, Ji-won, gets a new cell phone and finds herself getting strange, harassing phone calls. Her friends little daughter, Young-Ju, picks up the phone while it’s ringing and starts screaming in terror. After that incident, Ji-won goes on a series of investigations and finds out the previous owners of that phone number, had died.
Any movie with crazy, scary little japanese children is always excellent horror in my book. Not too many extras are included on this DVD, just some previews of other movies, a behind the scenes look at the making of the movie, and a little home video of the cast members, from when the filming was finished.
This is a movie all horror fans should check out. It’s not really ownable, but it’s entertaining to see at least once. Especially if you’re into the japanese horror genre, and seeing the originals of these movies before they’re remade into shitty american versions.
