So this is what modern prog-death metal sounds like? Basically, a more abrasive and heavier Mars Volta, with just the same amount of tempo changes and long periods of boringness. But I do have to admit, they’re pretty tight. I can’t quite get into them, but I can’t help but appreciate the musicianship. I think my problem with the album is that it’s just too much; at 64 minutes long, there’s a lot to take at once. Especially when the vocals are the same old growly shouting vocals that really if anything take away from the musicianship and the technical precision of the instrumentation. I’m torn between my appreciation for the math rock/prog-metal part of the band and the excessiveness of this album being too long and not really reaching any creative zeniths. There definitely is a market for this type of band – I just don’t think I’m part of it.

Bottom Line: Really technical prog-metal with some interesting flairs, but far too much of everything.
