Purified Anger, the latest from Jacksonville’s Lokyata is just about as metal as metal gets. The entire album is characterized by extremely dark melodies and pained vocals which keep this EP far out of the appeal of anyone who isn’t really into metal. In the rare instance that Dustin (vocals) is actually singing, it sounds bit more palatable, but otherwise this EP is only for strict fans of screaming hardcore/metal.

The vocals on the record are mixed too low and really make the guitars a focal point. This is especially apparent on the title track, “Purified By Anger” which has some really impressive guitar, but otherwise the vocals just sound like a messy undertone on the rest of the album. “What You Have Given Me” is a very powerful and emotionally charged track but as these six songs meld into one another, the album as a whole tends to sound like an album’s worth of someone getting beaten.

Lokyata is currently working on their full length album. They are planning a summer tour which includes this summer’s Terror Fest and Indianola Upstart Tour.

Bottom Line: It sounds like Lokyata has some serious anger issues, and it’s not pretty.
Notable Tracks: “You Can’t Say Much With A Gun In Your Mouth” strictly for the gang vocals.
