Mystechs have a different shtick with each album. This is their tongue-and-cheek “death metal” album.
It’s shlocky and not that great, but I was actually a bit surprised. Usually Mystechs are as inept as they are lame, but they do metal pretty good here, even if it’s filled with cartoony cliches. Many of the growls and guitar lines are actually passable, though garnished with quirky/silly flourishes to remind you that it’s all a joke, somewhere between Jack Black and Metalocalypse.
Compared to other Mystechs albums, Hot Tub Of Blood should win the Grammy. But compared to other quirky genre hoppers (like, say, Ween), this is still pretty awful.
