It was such an incredible pleasure to review “Sing Loud, Sing Proud” by the Dropkick Murphys. I’d have to say it’s my opinion that this is their best and diverse album yet. It’s celebratory, festive, but also still as punk as we all expect them to be. The Murphys have now added more members and variety to the band. They feature Al Barr on vocals, Ken Casey on bass, Matt Kelly on drums, James Lynch guitars, Marc Orrell on guitar and ACCORDIAN, Ryan Foltz on MANDOLIN-TIN WHISTLE and DULCIMER, and rounding out the crew is Spicy McHaggis on BAGPIPES and underage drinking. I have listened to all the Dropkick Murphy’s releases and have seen them live a few times, but this is the best I have ever heard them. Even though I don’t drink this album is a temptation for everyone to go to there local record store and buy a case of Guinness. The album opens with “For Boston” which starts with the chant “Let’s Go Murphys”…… then it breaks into a bag pipe jig and a festive chant celebrating their home. Another must hear is “The Rocky Road To Dublin”. This features Ryan on the tin whistle and it’s guaranteed to make you dance your socks off. I did! The bagpipe playing on “Heroes From Our Past” is phenomenal and definitely adds to the already amazing musical talent the Murphys have demonstrated in the past. The moral of this story is go out to your local music store and support the Dropkick Murphys and Hellcat Records by picking this album up. I’d have to rank it up their with my other favorites of the old-skool Bosstones, Rancid, and NOFX. If I had to give it a rating out of ten I’d give it a 23. Sing Loud and Sing Proud!
