I believe this is by far the best DVD I’ve ever seen. There is so much stuff on here, it’s amazing. This is a movie geek’s fantasy come true. I guess I’ll start with the movie first. It’s an extra half hour and it feels like a totally different film in some areas. It’s got that epic feel to it, plus it’s extremely long and I wish it was longer. They’ve added lots of things in the beginning of the film. Or, they changed the whole beginning to the shire with Bilbo narrated things about the Hobbits, while writing There and Back Again. Besides that added, there’s more stuff with the Elves in Rivendell, and Lothlorien. Plus a few added fighting scenes in Moria, and at Amon Hen. The film was so long, and wanted to preserve the quality that they had to extend the movie onto two disc so after the Council of Elrond, that’s when you insert the next disc.

Now comes the best part of the DVDs, The Extras. If you want to know how to make an epic, by watching this you will get a feel for it. They cover EVERYTHING. Clothing, Armor, Weapons, Makeup, Graphics, Sound and music, Acting, camera angles, writing. My favorite extra was the “Fellowship of the Cast” feature which is about an hour long and talks with all the actors and crew on the film and they retell their stories from the set and some of the stuff is freakin funny. Other parts I enjoyed were on the overall filming of the movie, where they go from each part of the movie and tell you what they did. The Weapon and armor part with Richard Taylor was awesome He’s a genius, he knows what he’s doing. I Wish the segment on making the music was longer because I enjoy watching those featurettes on DVD. There are two hidden Easter eggs on the dvd that are cool. One is the 4 minute preview of TTT, that appeared after FOTR last March. The other is the funny skit Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar did at the MTV Movie Awards. You can find those on the movie disc’s scene selections, on the last page. There’s so much to talk about this and that would take forever so I’ll cut this short. BUY THIS. THIS IS THE BEST DVD EVER!
