I’ve been a fan of Ziggy Marley’s since 1995 and been a fan ever since. A lot has happened since then Ziggy’s early days of reggae. Ziggy is now doing his solo material and isn’t with the Melody Makers (even though Stephen sings with him a lot). I didn’t really care for the “Dragonfly” album but “Love is my Religion” is one of his best albums! I believe that won a Grammy? “Love is my Religion Live” was recorded in December 2006 at the Avalon Theatre in Los Angeles. This DVD performance is over 2 hours long, and Ziggy plays 19 tracks including some Bob Marley classics, some Melody Makers hits and his own solo material. It’s definitely an awesome live DVD to own if you’re a fan of reggae & Ziggy Marley.

I can’t believe how long this DVD is. Usually with live DVDs, you only get about an hours worth of music and the rest is edited out. Maybe this DVD was edited down to 2 hours but I doubt it. Ziggy plays a lot of the songs I wanted to hear like “Tumblin Down,” “Tomorrow People,” “Into The Groove,” and one of my newest favorites “A Lifetime.” I love the new song “A Lifetime,” and just really happy that song is included on this DVD. Obviously Ziggy Marley covers some of his Father’s classics as well. He covers “Rastaman Vibration,” “Concrete Jungle,” “Is This Love,” and “Jammin.” I’m glad the Marley kids are performing a lot of their Father’s music at their concerts. I was certainly glad to hear many of those songs live when I saw Ziggy Marley play in 1996 or 1997 at the Smokin’ Grooves tour.

As far as the production of the DVD is concerned, I thought it was pretty much flawless. The video looks crisp on my LCD TV and the audio is great. The camera angles range from crowd shots to close-up shots of Ziggy and his backing band. My only complaint with this DVD is sometimes the songs are slowed down or go on for too long. It seems like an ordinary song of 5 minutes ends up being 15 minutes. But with that said, Ziggy has a tremendous voice and is realizing his Father’s dreams. Actually, I’m sure all of Bob Marley’s children (Stephen, Damien, Julian, Ky-Mani, etc. etc. etc.) are realizing their Father’s dreams of creating beautiful music and promoting peace, love and unity. I’d recommend getting this DVD if you’re a Marley fan.
