Much better than their debut, Action Action’s new one has them carving out their own sound rather than being another 80s-retro eyeliner-wearing fashion band. Yes, there are synths and nods to Depeche Mode, but the music is largely unique to Action Action. They have a full, multilayered sound due to excessive studio tinkering, and it gives them an uber-modern and different sound. Also, behind the facade of moody synth-pop is a very upbeat, nearly dance-punk band with vocals that reach soaring heights. Maybe the album is overdone, but the band finally has their own identity, and they sound good to me.
