Fronted by Joey Cape (Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut, Me First), Playing Favorites can be chalked up as a mildly decent but forgettable side band. The music ranges from competent if bland emo to good power-pop to the odd ballady indie tune. Ironically, I dug some of the slower stuff and found the more upbeat, punky tunes to be terribly boring.

As a whole, the album suffers from length and lack of spark. They get points for good musicianship and lyrics, but this is a long, dull journey of 14 tracks that rarely leave an impression.

Bottom Line:
Notable Tracks: Everyone Else in the World, Waiting, Indigenous
