It took a couple of songs to get used to the vocals, but now I’m fairly certain that these guys are really good. The music is nice, clean pop-punk with some interesting indie flourishes, but the vocals are this yarling, alarmingly strained multi-layered post-punk thing. Kind of sounds like dogs barking in an echo chamber.
That was the gap I had to bridge, but I just kept thinking of the Pixies and Husker Du and now I’m at a place where I can appreciate these guys. The music really is very good and I do like the vocal juxtaposition. Best of all, songs are about a minute long. I love that. It’s like, get the point across, rock out, and don’t stick around to fuck it up.
This may be abrasive for pop-punk, but as far as post-punk goes, it’s downright catchy.
