Formerly Say Hi To Your Mom (and thank the Almighty Goldblum for the name change), this primarily one-man band produces some wonderfully warm and pleasing lo-fi.

What makes the band appealing is Eric Elbogen’s deep, New Romantic vocals that fall somewhere between Morrissey and the guy from Simple Minds – not bad for a Brooklyn boy.

The music is great too and strangely live and human considering it’s executed on synths and a drum machine. And, while I wouldn’t have minded it, it’s also impressive that Eric avoids gimmicky effects like many shoegazers trying to be the next Postal Service.

For lo-fi, the music ripples with pop energy and flavor. I listened to the album in full and the 35 minutes felt like 10. Unlike so many in the genre, Eric forgoes long intros and filler, sticking to the song and away from the soundscape. Between the strata of warm fuzziness, the undercurrent of rhythmic shuffle, and well-paced song composition, there isn’t a dull moment.

Bottom Line:
Notable Tracks: Northwestern Girls; Toil and Trouble; Oboes Bleat and Triangles Tink; Magic Beans and Truth Machines; Zero to Love
