The album kicks off with a comically thugged-out shout-out reminiscent of some of the more knuckle-dragging NYHC bands from the 80s. I almost shut it off there, but listened to more and was surprised at the band’s approach.
Rather than blistering tough guy hardcore, the music is downtempo and saturated with slow rock riffs and even lengthy, time-consuming solos. Many of the songs clock in at an unbearable 4-6 minutes.
Although this band is from Milwaukee, lyrically they’re identical to your usual Boston bands – songs about being Irish, drinking, and fighting. Meh.
The singer is pretty good – coarse and gravelly but still easy to listen to, sort of like Lemmy and Dicky Barrett. But outside one or two decent songs, the boring riffing and long durations make this album a chore.
