Take radio-friendly canned rock music and add some Thursday style vocals and what you get is a lackluster snooze fest that goes by the name of A Verse Unsung. “Sleeping Tigers” is void of any semblance of energy, emotion and creativity. The emo rut has grabbed hold of yet another carbon copy band and refuses to let go.
A handful of songs on “Sleeping Tigers” offer a glimmer of potential. “Resolve To Fight” has a White Stripes intro and “A Better Place” starts off like an Avenged Sevenfold song, but just as quickly as it appears that glimmer is gone. As soon as the vocals kick in, the song goes sour. The entire disc leaves that sour taste in your mouth. Even if you like emo, I can guarantee that there are better bands out there than A Verse Unsung.
Bottom Line: Bland emo rock that doesn’t rock.
Notable Tracks: About five seconds worth of “Resolve To Fight” and “A Better Place”.
