After many years on Mojo and other major labels, Goldfinger are back with a new great album! The band’s latest album is also their debut album on Side One Dummy. Side One Dummy’s lineup keeps getting more and more impressive. Original guitarist Charlie Paulsen is back after leaving the band in 1999. Perhaps Charlie is one of the reasons why Goldfinger had all their best albums back in the day? The last few efforts from the punk, ska-influenced band haven’t been their best but there were still a few songs on those albums that stood out.
With “Hello Destiny,” things start off with a bang with the pop punk song “One More Time.” Catchy choruses have always been a thing Goldfinger has been good at. Another good thing that the band has been good at is mixing punk and ska together flawlessly. I love when they do a ska-punk song (“Get Up”) because it stands out from the other punk songs. It makes the albums more dynamic. Towards the end of the album, animal rights supporter John Feldmann and Goldfinger wrote a song about incarcerated animal rights activist Kevin Kjonaas. They continue to support him and trying to get him out of prison. Not sure I always agree with PETA and Animal Rights people, but the way things went down for Kevin, it doesn’t sound right. But anyway, if you like Goldfinger back in their older days, then be sure to pick up this album!
Bottom Line: Goldfinger return with their best album since “Stomping Ground”
Notable Tracks: One More Time, Get up, Without Me, How Do You Do It
