I usually do this, I’ll get the movie score before seeing the movie. I’ll eventually see this movie when it comes out but I’m a big fan of James Horner so I had to get it. James Horner is well known in the movie score industry, mainly because of the Braveheart and Titanic scores. Speaking of Braveheart, the first track “The River Crossing To Stalingrad” starts off almost identical to the Braveheart opener. Besides taking pieces of his previous works, he also uses the trumpet flare or whatever it’s called from Willow throughout this score. I like when he uses the choir in the songs because it adds to them. Sometimes the score is a little slow and quiet, and adds basically a backdrop to the film. I think the best song is the first one, “The River Crossing To Stalingrad” because it’s long but has a lot of different themes to it. Other tracks that stand out from the rest are “Vassili’s Fame Spreads,” “Betrayal,” and “Tania.” I thought the score itself, was decent. Maybe when I see the movie, it will add to the score more and the images from the movie will pop in my head when hearing this again.
