I don’t remember what Johnny Action Figure sound like, but after hearing this album; I would have to say they are trying to go for that Shins sound now. Though they aren’t as good as the Shins but they aren’t THAT bad either. JAF have a self-titled album that I reviewed awhile back but I honestly don’t remember it. I think they had a whiny punk sound then? Whatever I said back then, I think I like the band a little bit more this time.

The band hails from Reading, PA and they haven’t had new material released in over 2 years, until now. The music seems a lot softer and slower than their other album. The vocalist’s voice fits this style of music better, but it still seems a bit on the whiny side. From listening to this album, it sounds like the band is still trying to find their sound. Maybe if polka rock is in next time, they will have that sound next album? The music on this EP sounds ok, it’s just something I wouldn’t want to listen to every day.

Bottom Line: The band is trying to sound like the Shins too much
Notable Tracks: This is How I Look When I Laugh At Death, Francis
