I rarely hear country/folk done as post-punk, and thank god for that. This is awful. P.A.F., which must stand for Pretty Awful.. um.. Fluffernutter, is going for a gut-wrenching, anguished sound, but it’s a mess that’s anguish on the ears.
The members seem to be in different bands. The drums are doing horribly inept post-punk, amateurishly thumping way too loudly in the mix. The guitars, when they’re around, are doing some art rock drone thing with bad solos. And the vocalist sounds like he’s passing a stone.
And that’s when the band’s playing. Most of the album are long quiet lulls or silent setups, presumably to build tension but only succeeding in being boring. But then again, the silence is the best part of the album.
