I had trouble writing this review because it’s hard to compare the Selby Tigers to anyone else. So I went online to get ideas, and found this great line in Ink 19’s review of ST’s first album: “…the true sign of greatness is not being compared to anyone.”
But since you need to know what they sound like, here’s my shot at it: Picture a straight-up, simple punk band that is also somehow a smooth blend of late 70’s New York-style garage-y punk (Dead Boys, Voidoids), 80’s new wave (Human League), tag-team male-female vocals (Vaselines, Pixies), and some noisy/spazzy elements of Bikini Kill, Dead Kennedys, Devo, and the Amboy Dukes. But you should really hear it for yourself. As another tiger once said, “It’s GRRRRREAT!”
Bottom Line:
Notable Tracks: Down In Uppertown, The Littlest One, Neighbor With A Defect, Superbreakout!, Punch In The Face (With Your Lips), The Prom I Never Had
