Okay, I’m a fan now. Acid-blues stuff has always left me lukewarm, just like acid-jazz, freeform jazz, and white boy blues-rock, but this live album is just impossible to dislike. It’s fiery and fun, and works both as a great background album and something to crank. Plus their sound has that lo-fi shuffling energy of the first Velvet Undergrounds record. I can’t explain it better than that, but if you listen to “Gospel According To John” you gotta admit it’s a bluesy version of “Run Run Run” by the Velvets.
