Usually bands with Kill in their name bring forth nightmarish visions of music more scary in its crappiness than in its delivery. But Southkill deliver neither crappiness or scariness. They do have a hard edge, but they play simplistic instrumental indie instead of the expected metalcore.
Simplistic is no joke – it sounds like it’s just a drummer and guitarist, and they never stray too far: the drums roll by without much intensity, and the guitar is played like a bass with simple, lulling strumming. Perhaps they’re going more for hypnotic mood rather than math rock chops, and they do succeed in creating a dark, but dull, atmosphere.
