Canada’s The Mahones seem to be picking up steam lately with their recent tour in the US (finally), releasing a split CD with Catgut Mary, and now they released a “Irish Punk Collection.” The album contains 17 classic from the band, including some live tracks as well. There are some great songs on here like “Paint the Town Red,” “Streets of New York,” “Shake Hands with the Devil,” and “Queen and Tequila.” The band covers “Irish Rover” and it’s actually a song I haven’t heard the band do; so that was cool to hear.

I’m not sure why they are releasing this because they released a Best-Of album a few years ago. Maybe to include the newer tracks? I don’t know, perhaps this will appeal to fans who are just getting into the band and want a good collection of Irish Punk songs. But fans of the band who already have their albums will probably not want this.

Bottom Line: Nothing new here but a great collection of songs if you’re new to the band
Notable Tracks: Paint the Town Red, Streets of New York, Amsterdam Song, Is This Bar Open Til Tomorrow
